Bespoke insulated veranda enclosure extending year-round living space with privacy glass and effortless ventilation.
The Vandenbroucke family in Mechelen wanted to reclaim an underused corner of their garden and turn it into an everyday retreat. The existing patio was too wind-exposed in autumn and lost heat quickly in winter. Our task was to deliver an insulated veranda that stayed light-filled, offered privacy from neighboring gardens, and could be ventilated without sacrificing comfort.
We specified a thermally broken aluminium structure powder-coated in soft white, coordinating with the home’s existing soffit and window trims. The frosted lower panels calm sightlines from the street, while the clear sections pull daylight deep into the kitchen. A low-threshold sliding door tracks on a concealed drainage channel, so rainwater is guided away from the flooring.
Inside, the family requested year-round usability, so we combined solar-control laminated glass overhead with trickle ventilators that release built-up warmth on summer evenings. Every joint is gasketed and pressure-tested to keep the space draft-free through Belgian winters.
Today the veranda doubles as a breakfast nook and a weekend reading hideout. Morning sun pours through the clear roof panels, tempered by the frosted band that keeps neighbors’ views in check. The sliding door glides effortlessly, and the trickle vents mean the room never feels stuffy — even with the door closed. It is a compact project with a big lifestyle payoff: an outdoor room that truly belongs to the home regardless of season.
